R course for beginners 24 June 2024

Welcome to register for the programming language R – a beginner e-learning course. This course aims at young and senior scientists who use R primarily for statistical data analysis, but also to (beforehand) process data with reproducible techniques and to (afterwards) present it in a modern and comprehensible way. The goal is specifically to learn statistical knowledge in an intuitive and practicable manner. The focus of this course is mainly on practical application, so that the methods mentioned below and their underlying theory are explained with the help of illustrative examples.

Lecturer: Dr. Paul SCHMIDT completed his PhD in biostatistics at the University of Hohenheim in 2019 and has been working as a data scientist in life sciences at BioMath since then. He also gives beginner and advanced workshops in R and likes when complicated methods are explained well, when results are presented in a concise yet beautiful manner, and when R does its magic.

Date: First Zoom meeting on 24 June 2024. The course will be open as e-learning format for 1 week.

Venue and format: E-learning using recorded 3 days lectures and online materials from Dr. Paul Schmidt. Participants from Pro-RUWA partners can attend jointly by using Pro-RUWA IT hubs/partner seminar rooms at the respective partner universities (University of Abomey Calavi – UAC (Benin), University of Abdou Moumouni de Niamey – UAM (Nigerà CEGLA, Pro-RUWA, WAC-SRT), and University of Dedougou – UDDG (Burkina Faso)) will be available. All learning materials can be accessed via DIGI-FACE (moodle-based). Please have current versions of the two open-source software packages R and RStudio installed before the beginning of the course.
