Open Digital Formats & Alumni Activities for the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA)

From November 21 to 24, 2023, the tripartite consortium, comprised of the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), are holding the Fifth Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA) in the context of the ‘Year of AfCFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation,’ which was the AU Theme of the year.

The adoption as the theme of the year was expected to generate greater political commitment and accelerate the effective implementation of the AfCFTA to fully benefit the African citizenry and achieve the aspirations and goals of Agenda 2063. The yearlong activities enhanced the existing collaboration among the Member States, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), AU institutions, the private sector, development partners, and other stakeholders to mobilize and implement actions that boosted intra-Africa trade, particularly trade in value-added production and trade across all sectors of Africa’s economy.

In a side event about Open Digital Formats & Alumni Activities for the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) the DIGI-FACE Coordination Team was invited by the Chair of this site event Eva Rothenpieler (DAAD, Germany).

Prof. Paul Webb illustrate the opportunities of open digital formats for alumni activities with the multifunctional DIGI-FACE platform. Using the own alumni area of the Climate and Sustainable Development Action Club’s (CSDAC) of the West African German Centre for Sustainable Rural Transformation (WAC-SRT) as an example, it was shown how alumni activities from university partnerships can be integrated into our DIGI-FACE platform.

Alumni are a key user group of the DIGI-FACE platform, and based on recent experiences, it is evident that creating dedicated spaces on the platform for each participating Centre of Excellence is essential. DIGI-FACE would like to support all interested alumni in their individual professional and academic career path – from graduation to a successful position with influence on society and decision making. To achieve this, DIGI-FACE needs to identify what is necessary and needed from all interested Centres. Please contact us (digiface@hs-kehl.de) if your alumni association at your Centre wants to join this initiative.

Our numerous tools and services (Generic open access modules on Moodle, Blogs across the network, Project Management and Publication tool […]) are available for all individuals.

Alumni can enhance their online presence without the expenses associated with maintaining individual websites. DIGI-FACE provides a centralized platform for showcasing achievements, projects, and updates. DIGI-FACE enables alumni to easily connect with fellow community members. They can explore profiles, facilitating a deeper understanding of each member’s background, expertise, and accomplishments. Networking opportunities can lead to collaborations, mentorship, and the exchange of ideas.

The platform encourages a culture of creativity and innovation. Alumni can share their innovative projects, ideas, and experiences, fostering a collaborative environment that inspires continuous growth and development. DIGI-FACE prioritizes the security of personal data. Alumni can confidently share information, knowing that the platform is designed with robust privacy measures, creating a secure space for interactions and information exchange.

In summary, Prof. Webb presented following – DIGI-FACE is not just a platform; it’s a dynamic space where alumni can amplify their digital presence, connect meaningfully with peers, foster innovation, and feel secure in sharing their personal and professional journeys. It’s a comprehensive resource that empowers alumni to be creative, engaged, and supported within a thriving community.
