    What You’ll Learn:

    Writing a research proposal can be one of the most challenging steps in a postgraduate student’s academic journey. This self-paced, four-week course is designed to help you master the core skills needed to craft a clear, coherent, and compelling research proposal. With structured guidance and support, you’ll learn to distinguish between research problems and background knowledge, refine your objectives, and design a methodologically sound study. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to strengthen your existing proposal, this course offers the tools you need to write with confidence.

    Hands-On Learning:

    Although mostly self-study, this course includes support via forum discussions and a dedicated WhatsApp group.

    Assignments, quizzes, reflections, and forum engagement will form part of your continuous assessment, ensuring active participation and practical application of concepts

    40 notional hours (5-10 hours per week).

    Live Zoom sessions:

    Two one-hour sessions. One at the beginning of the module and one in the middle.

    Target group:

    The course is ideal for postgraduate students across disciplines who are in the early stages of planning their research or needing to revisit and refine their proposal development process.

    Learning Outcomes:

    By the end of the course, you will be able to:

    • Clearly distinguish between a research problem and background knowledge.
    • Develop focused research objectives based on your phenomenon of interest.
    • Connect your research problem to relevant background literature.
    • Select and justify appropriate research methods.
    • Design a coherent, well-structured research proposal.

    Requirements:

    Participants must register on the DIGI-FACE platform and complete the course within four weeks of enrolment. A basic understanding of academic research is recommended. Commitment to independent learning and active engagement is essential.

        • Staff is everybody who works in the frame of a university which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network) [(i.e. as coordinator, financial/administrative support, IT-support, learning designer, administrator etc.). If you are working for DAAD or DIGI-FACE you are also staff.
      3. Alumni
        • An Alumni is a former student in a study programme at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network). In many cases, part of one of the centres’ alumni associations.
      4. Lecturer
        • A Lecturer performs teaching and pedagogic work at one of the universities which is participating at DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence and its network)
      5. Researcher
        • A researcher is an individual who is engaged in conducting research at one of the universities which is participating in DIGI-FACE (African Centres of Excellence, Global Centres and its networks). Researchers contribute to academic knowledge through studies, experiments, and publications in various fields of expertise.
