Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha is one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology located across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). These institutions, which are the proud brainchild of the late Nelson Mandela, envision training and developing the next generation of African scientists and engineers with a view to impacting profoundly on the continent’s development through the application of Science, Engineering and Technology and Innovation (SETI).

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg was founded in 1973, making it one of Germany‘s younger universities. It aims to find answers to the major challenges society faces in the 21st century – through interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research. The University of Oldenburg offers a broad range of disciplines, from the humanities to educational sciences, the economic and STEM and medicine.

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt) undertakes statutory tasks in the space sector on behalf of the German Federal Government. The agency implements the space strategy of the Federal Government, develops and manages the national space programme, and represents the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany in space-related international bodies.

University of Applied Sciences Mannheim, Germany

The University of Applied Sciences Mannheim (Hochschule Mannheim) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The engineering departments continued from the former Mannheim School of Engineering, established back in 1898. Most of the graduate programmes offered still centre around these subjects.

University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) is a private higher learning university and is functioning in accordance with the law no. 04/2012 governing organisation and functioning of non-governmental organisations. Before being upgraded from Institute to University status in 2015, UTAB was known as Institut Polytechnique de Byumba (IPB).

University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London, the University of Dar es Salaam is today the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It is situated on the Western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, 13 kilometers from the city centre. I became a full-fledged university in 1971, with a current emphasis on postgrad training and research.

Founded in its current form in 1980, the IUCEA serves as a network for universities in the East African Communities. It aims at facilitating networking among universities in East Africa, and with universities outside the region. It provides a forum for discussion; and it supports maintenance of internationally comparable education standards in East Africa. Its headquarters are located in Kampala, Uganda.

The EAC is home to 177 million citizens and its headquarters are based in Arusha, Tanzania.

Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
The Federal Republic of Germany became involved in development policy for the first time in 1952 by participating in the “Extended Support Program of the United Nations for Economic Development of Underdeveloped Countries and Regions”. Further activities followed and step by step development policy became a new state task – which eventually led to the establishment of a separate Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) in 1961.
