    Content and Goals

    In view of the need for excellence in educational research, training and management in Sub-Saharan Africa related to the processes of empowerment and advancement of educationists and educational institutions, CERM-ESA focuses on:

    • Research: Advancing and expanding excellent innovative educational research on methodologies, instruction techniques and management strategies for African contexts;
    • Teaching: CERM-ESA academic programme which includes a Master’s programme in educational research, annual Research Schools and mentored online modules, as well as an exchange programme for lecturers and students;
    • Capacity Building: The CERM-ESA capacity building programme for academic and administrative university staff is open to all partners of the DAAD-funded Centres of African Excellence;
    • Professional Teacher Development: Supporting teachers and principals to develop professionally and advance their competencies in relevant areas of educational practice, curriculum implementation and school management in their local contexts.

    Programmes and How to Apply

    All CERM-ESA call for applications for scholarships and capacity building programmes are published here. Master’s and PhD scholarships are announced in October and after three selection steps, scholarships are awarded in April of the following year. The CERM-ESA Master’s and PhD programmes at Moi University start on the 1st of September each year. As part of its capacity building programme, CERM-ESA has developed a number of Short Learning Programmes for lecturers, supervisors and postgraduate students, including:

    • Strengthening Postgraduate Supervision
    • Publishing your Research
    • Academic Written and Graphic Presentations
    • Achieving Research Coherence
    • Quality Assurance in Online Teaching and Learning
    • Quantitative Research Methodologies

    These Short Learning Programmes are offered in blended and online learning formats and are announced on the digiface and CERM-ESA websites. All courses and capacity building workshops in the Teacher Professional Development Programme take place in a blended or face-to-face format and are announced on the CERM-ESA website.
